"You shall open your hands wide to your brother,
To your poor and your needy, in your land"
-Deuteronomy 15:11
Namaste to everyone back home! I miss you all very much and think of each of you daily. I cannot wait to share all of the amazing things God has been doing in my life here in India! I have been stretched and pushed to my limits more than I could ever imagine. Picture me constantly dirty and sweaty, living in a home with bugs, dirt and twelve other people. Those things mixed with culture shock itself makes for some hard adjustments! If you know me well enough, you can imagine how I have been stretched. Those are only the little things, though, and truly do not matter that much. The way our Lord has been working in me and all the others here is on a much larger scale, and cannot even be described in full!
I have never been more thankful for things in my life! Until you see poverty such as this in real life, it is too hard to picture how amazingly well we live in the states! I wake up every day and find at least one more thing that I am so blessed to have back home. Never did I think I would be so thankful to have a place to lay my head at night, the ability to flush toilet paper (or have toilet paper for that matter!), and having all of the food items I can afford to eat every day back home (oh, how I miss Caribou!).
It is crazy to be calling this place home, but I would never change it for the world! I love all of my new brothers and sisters, as well as all of my little nieces and nephews at the orphanage, slums and the leper colony (I am called Kelsey Auntie or Kelsey Didi).
I will write again as soon as I can!
God bless and all of my love,
Kelsey Scherven
